Can YOU do 26? The RT Philly Staff will be!

On Friday, May 18, be ready 26 consecutive hours of podcast excellence. We are kicking off ticket sales for RT Philly with RT26. Just like last year, we'll have a fundraising goal and hilariously embarrassing milestones to hit--and this year, we'll be delivering the goods immediately upon hitting the numbers. We'll be releasing event and guest info, streaming games, concerts, movies, interviews, in both bold new video and classic audio!

hi, hello, how are you?

So did you all have fun at PAX East? I know those of us from the staff who went had a blast, as always. I think the next big thing on the calendar is RTX, which we really encourage you to attend. They're doing a Child's Play auction similar to the Corgi Cup we  started last year.

Anyhoo, I wanted to let you know about some of the technical changes we've had here for  RT Philly. We've actually organized into a formal planning committee, with specific roles for different segments of the event. So without further ado, let me reintroduce you to our staff!!

JEFF

Chairman of the Board & Technical Director

As Chairman of the Board, Jeff Rupert represents the RT Philly organization as a whole and helps organize the more business-like aspects of the oversight board. He is also our Technical Director, responsible for things like the website and sound at the event.

MATT

Treasurer

Matt Evans is our Treasurer for both the board and the Planning Committee. He tells us how much $$ is where, when and why.

 

JACK

Secretary & Community Liason

Jack Edathil is our Community Liason, meeting and greeting community members and organizing Sidequests. He is also the Secretary for both the board and the Planning Committee.

 

VIRGINIA

Event Coordinator & Logistics

As the Event Coordinator, Virginia Evans is responsible for managing the Planning Committee and the overall event. She also works with John Sedlack to manage the venues.

 

JOHN

Guest Liason & Logistics

John Sedlack is our Guest Liason and the other half of the Logistics team. He does his best to make sure our special guests are happy and on time.

NICK

Media Manager

Nick Cusworth is the man in charge of the media content for the event. Without Nick, we wouldn't have video and music submissions, or really, and event at all.


CLIFF

Volunteer Coordinator

Cliff Simon is our Volunteer Coordinator and all around handy-man. He regularly available to assist other Planning Committee members in getting stuff done.

Make It A Summer Of Musiter!!

In the true community-arts-based nature of RT Philly, we have a fun project for you to support!

Lauren, AKA OboeCrazy, of Late Nite Jengajam, is an oboist on a mission to share classical music with the world. She calls her project Musiter and she's looking for a little more help with finances to really make it what she invisions.

"Musiter is bite-sized fun bits of music in interesting locations. The length is based off of Twitter…no more than 140 notes of music performed and recorded in a unique and hopefully related location. If Twitter is a way to share thoughts in a concise way, Musiter is the same thing for musicians.

One of the problems facing classical music in general is the negative perception of the art as uptight and limited. Classical musicians are perceived as sheltered, cloistered in fancy concert halls and only accessible through expensive concerts of gigantic length and weight. As an oboist I play an instrument intimately tied to classical music, and Musiter is a way to break out of the stodgy mold to show the freedom and beauty classical music can have. It’s a way to make classical music accessible and fun, especially to an online audience used to tiny YouTube videos."

RT Philly 2012: Aspire to Endeavor

2012 will be year four for RT Philly and we're reaching back to the ugly business conferences of the 1990s for inspiration. But before I get ahead of myself let me tell you about some things to look forward to.

  • We're going to be just slightly bigger and better this year with one extra hour of conference time.
  • Our re-organized staff and planning process should make the registration and the weekend of events run much smoother.
  • We'll be having specially designed "side quests" hosted by JengaJam throughout the weekend.
  • More music, arts, media and vendors!
  • And lastly, we have SPONSORS this year!

Flying into PHL

So if you're flying into PHL, theres a quick and easy way to get downtown from the airport and that my friends is by train. A cab could cost about $30-40, but the train will only cost you about $10 per person. Here what you do, take the airport line heading towards center city. Get off at Suburban station, and the hotel is about 7 blocks away. You can either hoof it (about 13min) or catch a cab if you have a lot of luggage (which will be a lot cheaper then from the airport)

Kicking off the RT:Philly Fundraising weekend

It's 8pm so you know what that means? It's time to kick off the final RT:Philly fundraiser.

As part of the fundraiser we'll be releasing the exclusive Martha Marin: Rock Patch, a short film featuring the wonderfully talented Martha Marin. The intro to Martha Marin: Rock Patch can be found at the bottom of this post. But don't scroll down, yet as we have much more to cover.  Below is just the intro video, and once you watch it, you'll want more, seriously this film is like crack, one hit and you're hooked for life. So here is the release schedule for the rest of the short. 

  • Part 1: $50 donated, or 2 hours after start of event (10pm EST)
  • Part 2: $125 donated, or ~24 hours after previous video released
  • Part 3: $200 donated, or ~24 hours after previous video released
  • Part 4: $300 donated
  • Part 5: $400 donated
  • Part 6: $500 donated

But that's not all. If you call within the next 10min we'll double you order for FREE. I am pleased to announce this years RT:Philly Savior Package. Here's what the package includes:

THE FINAL COUNTDOWN

Gonna try and keep this as brief as I can because I'm currently slaving over a hot CPU whipping together some VERY IMPORTANT AND RELEVANT videos for you all.

Starting tomorrow at 8pm EST, RT Philly will be holding it's final fundraising event of the year before the main event in a little over 2 weeks. Over and over we have been overwhelmed by the generosity that the community's shown in supporting RT events and members in need, and the community has already done so much to support us and this event.

We are currently in need. We've gone to great lengths to secure venues and bring in people that will all-but guarantee that our attendees will have a blast. We still have not been able to meet the goal set out by us to cover this year's budget though, and thus, we must ask one more time for you fabulous people to help us out. Between tomorrow night and Sunday we would like to raise $500. If any of you haven't actually gotten around to purchasing your event tickets yet, now would be a pretty fantastic time to do so. If you've given to us already and are unable to give more, you can help us tremendously by spreading the word to your friends by either linking them to here, which will be updated throughout the weekend.

This will not all be for nothing though. Two things will happen this weekend if people donate. First, I will be releasing videos from our fantastic performance featurette Martha Marin: Rock Patch. At 8pm tomorrow evening, the intro will be made available to the public. From then on this is how the release schedule will fall:

Part 1: $50 donated, or 2 hours after start of event (10pm EST)
Part 2: $125 donated, or ~24 hours after previous video released
Part 3: $200 donated, or ~24 hours after previous video released
Part 4: $300 donated
Part 5: $400 donated
Part 6: $500 donated

At the very least half of the whole thing will be released this weekend. If you guys manage to meet the other benchmarks though at any time of the weekend, more shall be released.

And that's not all! If we meet our goal this weekend, the person who puts us over the top past $500 will be awarded the RT Philly Savior Package, which will include an awesome package of goodies directly from the staff and some of our vendors. If any of you were part of the group last year you'll remember we did something similar, which turned into a great success.

Guess Who's Coming to RT Philly?

Some exciting people are coming to Philly this year and we want you to know about it. Luke McKay and Martha Marin will be headlining the event. We'll have panels including Kelli "Goose" Dunlap from Grifballhub, Jenga from Late Nite JengaJam, Andrew Russo from PartTime Comics, Derek Appel from The Gaming Vault, and Chris Marks from RoosterTooths.

We will also be having some great vendors including Retro ReduxApricot BasketSaint AshBeards and JacketsAperture Productions, and Jen Overstreet. And of course, the content of RT Philly will be music, video and love from YOU!
